Avis Oteline (Casselman) Pitcher, of Queensbury and formerly of Morristown, died February 21, 2016 in Glens Falls.
Mrs. Pitcher was born April 12, 1932 in Chesterville, Ont. to the late Willis and Florence (Drake) Casselman.
She married Charles H. Pitcher on Oct. 11, 1952 in Winchester, Ont. and they moved to Morristown. The couple suffered the loss of an infant son, Owen Lee, in 1958. Charles Pitcher died on April 3, 1994.
Mrs. Pitcher is survived by her children: Edwin and his wife Shirley Pitcher, of Morristown, Curtis and his wife Myra Pitcher, of Ogdensburg; Kathleen and her husband Thomas Bowen and Nancy and her husband Greg Mobley, both of Glens Falls. Also eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Seven of Mrs. Pitcher's siblings predeceased her. She is survived by one sister, Lila McClelland, of Ottawa, Ont.
Mrs. Pitcher became a U.S. citizen on June 12, 1959 and took pride in voting in all elections and serving as a juror whenever she was called.
While living in Morristown, Mrs. Pitcher was a member of the Morristown Methodist Church, The Morristown Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star.
In 2002, she was appointed to the Office for the Aging Advisory Council for St. Lawrence County. She held several other voluntary posts for the county agency including driver for the Meals on Wheels program in Morristown.
In 2004, Mrs. Pitcher moved to Glens Falls to be close to her daughters and young grandchildren. She immediately became an active member of the Glens Falls Senior Center. In recent years, she moved to the Cedar's Senior Apartments and volunteered in club activities with her fellow residents.
